Gecko Accelerograph know-how: Building MSSI expertise

By Rina Cruz

Last July 2, 2025, a specialized Gecko Accelerograph Training was conducted at 9:00 a.m. in the Blue Room of the Calderon Building. The session was conducted by Engr. Karim Bongarsa and Engr. Dino Maghirang, aimed exclusively for the engineers and technicians of Multi-Line Services Systems, Inc. (MSSI). The training reflects the company’s commitment to advancing technical competence in line with national guidelines.

The training covered the following key topics:

  1. Actual installation and operation of Gecko Accelerograph
  2. Set-up, commissioning and testing procedures with the corresponding testing and report forms.
  3. Calibration Test Procedure (SMA and ERI-2G) with Calibration Test Report.
  4. Seismic data retrieval and generation of reports.
  5. Annual testing and inspection procedures and creation of appropriate report forms.

This initiative supports one of the goals of MSSI to cultivate in-house experts in accelerograph technology, especially as more devices undergo preventive and corrective maintenance. Engr. Dino emphasized the importance of understanding the DPWH IRR of 2015, particularly its stipulations on the Certificate of Calibration, which is a vital requirement for the Certificate of Inspection issued annually by the LGU Office of the Building Official (OBO) for existing buildings.
