Tunying Exclusives features ‘Batang dating nakapaa, naging bilyonaryo’

Last August 10, 2025 (Sunday, 7:00 p.m.), our very own president, Mr. Rey Angeles of Filipinas Multi-Line Corporation, was featured on Tunying Exclusives.  This was his first time appearing on camera for a public interview, where he was introduced as “Batang dating nakapaa, naging bilyonaryo”.

The host, Anthony “Tunying” Taberna Jr., a Filipino broadcast journalist radio commentator, and singer, shared that he first came across Mr. Angeles’ story while reading from his friend, ChatGPT.

In the exclusive interview, Tunying described Multi-Line as a very low-key company and was amazed at how Mr. Angeles started from a simple build-and-sell venture that has now grown into a leading home improvement and hardware retail business, alongside a pension loan service that earns billions annually.  To Mr. Angeles, this success still feels like a mystery.

During the interview, Mr. Angeles shared his struggles in entering businesses he initially knew nothing about—how he ventured into building systems, then expanded to home improvement, architectural products, and pension loans.  He talked about how he learned his products, endured crises, and shared valuable lessons and advice for aspiring entrepreneurs.

According to Mr. Angeles, his first step into business was sparked by curiosity.

When asked how the business grew, Mr. Angeles explained that one must have curiosity, patient endurance, and the drive to inspire and influence people.  These, he emphasized, are key elements in turning a business around.

For those unsure of what business to pursue, Mr. Angeles advised starting with a good product.  Even if you have excellent PR skills, financial resources, and technical knowledge, without a good product you have nothing to offer the market.  He stressed the importance of knowing, loving, and mastering your product.  “If you love your product, you will study it, understand it, and see it from your customer’s perspective.  Only then will you know why they will choose to buy it.”  He also added that, “If you are looking for a product, you need to raise your antenna”.

Mr. Angeles advises aspiring entrepreneurs to learn the importance of communication and building strong relationships – not only with customers but also with suppliers – by embracing the Nine Fruits of the Holy Spirit (love, joy, peace, patient endurance, faithfulness, humility, kindness, generosity, and self-control).  And it all begins with love.

Mr. Angeles also mentioned that he strengthens the company by giving importance to his employees and by developing its culture.  This is the title of the Fuchsia Book he authored – Our People and Culture, Our Competitive Advantage.

Mr. Angeles is set to launch a book entitled Where To, From Here which chronicles both his personal journey and the history of the company.
