Experience many firsts, at EverFirst

By Jonalyn Garcia

When I imagined my first job, I always thought it would be a piece of cake. However, in reality, it is not all fun and games. It was last May 15, 2023, when I started my journey as a Treasury Assistant in EverFirst Loans Corporation. I considered this as the start of the second phase of my life, where I could finally step into the real world to put my education into use.

Excitement. If there’s one word that describe what I felt on my first day of work, it would be anticipation. I was eager to see how things would turn out. Initially, I was a complete beginner, having no idea about the job and still being taught how to do it. I was informed that I would be replacing an outgoing employee and had only about two weeks to learn everything about my assigned tasks. Starting out was very confusing because I was unfamiliar with the job itself and most of the terminology was new to me. Whenever I got puzzled, I often asked my colleagues for help, and I’m grateful that they were willing to teach me things I was not familiar with.

I gradually learned all the respective duties of my job, and as I became more familiar with them, the tasks became easier to handle. I gained confidence and started doing the work on my own without needing assistance.

Moving forward in my job, I rely on the people I’m working with to continue guiding me in the right direction. It has only been a month, and yet I have already learned several important lessons that have changed my perception of life. I have learned how to deal with stress, communicate effectively with people, and work as part of a team. I have also overcome the anxiety of asking for help and realized that my colleagues are always willing to offer support and advice. I look forward to becoming a more confident, friendly, and empathetic person who is not afraid to ask for help and face new challenges.

I wonder how things will unfold in the upcoming years of the most challenging yet rewarding phase of my life. I have always found joy in learning, which is why I consider each day on the job as an opportunity to challenge who I was yesterday, push my limits, and grow both personally and professionally.
